First Blog

I thought I'd add some of my own unoriginal thoughts to the internet. I'm starting this endeavor because there just aren't enough useless websites, blogs, bad content, or profiles of people I don't care about to go around. I have no idea if this will be my only post, if someone will ever read it, or if anyone will care what I choose to write about (if I post anymore). Wow what a disclaimer!

Today's Topic - My boys - Part 1

I have two boys ages 4 and 6. The 4 year old is into Disney Princesses. Maybe into is the wrong word, I think obsessed might be better. The other day he showed me a toy catalog and said he wanted the Cinderella dress more than anything else. He gets princess stickers, has a princess castle, and plays with all the disney princess polly pockets (ariel, belle, cinderella, sleeping beauty, jasmine, and snow white) he also has tinker bell. His main school relationships are with girls and on play dates with them his favorite thing to do is play dress up. I've seen him in more dresses, tutus, and leotards than I thought was possible. While I don't encourage him in these activities I don't make him wrong or feel bad for what he so clearly feels happy doing. It would be a lie though to say it doesn't bother me. All the websites I've read say this is normal and it's a phase that will pass. Well that remains to be seen.

The 6 year old is obsessed with Star Wars. Every stick, twig, wrapping paper tube, flashlight, yard stick, bat, etc. is a light saber. Every conversation starts with, "who is your favorite star wars guy?" As you might have guessed his obession doesn't bother me nearly as much as his cross-dressing brother but getting him to do or talk about something else... anything else... requires a lot of parental effort and involvment.

Polly Pocket Anyone?
